Abstract
Chronic neutrophilic leukemia is a rare form of myeloproliferative disorder. The basic abnormality is characterized by sustained neutrophilia with splenomegaly in the absence of fever, inflammation or any detectable cause for a leukemoid reaction
and
laboratory findings show elevated serum vitamin B12, serum uric acid, leukocyte alkaline phosphatase, and negative Philadelphia chromosome. Recently we had an opportunity to observe two cases of chronic neutrophilic leukemia in a 63-year-old male
and a
73-year-old female. WBC count of the pheripheral blood at initial visit was 37,600/ul and 69,400/ul with 80 and 85% segmented neutrophil. The underlying disease for leukemoid reaction had not been detected. The serum levels of vit B12 and uric
acid
and
LAP score were elevated. Chromosomal study showed a normal karyotype without Philadelphia chromosome. The bone marrow aspirations showed severe myeloid hyperplasias with 33% and 36% of mature neutrophil, respectively.
